Professor Ghosh Awarded 2013 ASCE Nathan M. Newmark Medal

Please join us in congratulating Somnath Ghosh, the Michael G. Callas Professor of Civil Engineering and Professor of Machenical Engineering, and the Director of the Center of Excellence on Computational Materials Modeling, on receiving a 2013 Nathan M. Newmark Medal. The Nathan M. Newmark Medal recognizes an ASCE member for contributions that have substantially strengthened the scientific base of structural engineering through papers and other written presentations.

Awarded by the ASCE’s Structural Engineering and Engineering Mechanics Divisions, this honor recognizes Prof. Ghosh’s “outstanding contributions to the field of computational mechanics of materials and structures, especially in image-based micromechanics and spatial and temporal multi-scale mechanics, and for sustained ambassadorship across structural and materials engineering communities.” In particular, the awards committee noted Ghosh’s work on methods for modeling multi-scale events in material deformation, damage, and fracture for structural metals and composites.
