Multiple spatial and temporal scale image-based modeling of composite materials

Application of PHCDM Model in Composite Structures

Parametric Homogenization based Continuum Damage Mechanics (PHCDM) model is applied to simulate three-point bending test of a pre-notched beam. The equivalence between micro and macro responses enables us to regenerate the microscopic failure behaviors at any critical locations on the beam.

Parametric Homogenization based Continuum Damage Mechanics (PHCDM) model is applied together with cohesive zone model to study the transverse crack and delamination of double-layer composite laminate. As the animation shows, the damage of laminated composite starts with the saturation of transverse crack and is relayed by the catastrophic development of delamination.
